Haslingfield Methodist Church

Poppy Day 2018

Haslingfield Poppy Project

As the centenary of the end of the First World War approaches this November, Haslingfield Methodist Church and friends would like to commemorate the people from Haslingfield and others with our own Poppy Project.  Inspired by the ceramic poppies at the Tower of London in 2014, we aim to crochet or knit a poppy for each person named on the village war memorial.  You may also wish to commemorate someone in this way, someone who isn’t memorialised here, but may be a member of your family, or a friend of your family.  If we have enough, we hope to add extra poppies to create a beautiful commemorative display.

We will display the poppies and the names both during the Charity Fair at the Methodist Church on Saturday 10th November and in All Saints Church during the afternoon Village Remembrance Service on Sunday 11th November.

A suggested crochet pattern is here

Poppies can be any shade of red, knitted or crocheted to any size or pattern.

If you would like to learn, to teach others, or you’d like to knit or crochet in a sociable setting, then please drop in between 8:45 until 11:30am on Wednesday 3rd and/or Thursday 4th October at the Methodist Church.
